Artisanal Route

Artisanal Route is an interesting route comprising about 100 kilometers from the capital city to the highest point in El Salvador (Cerro El Pital 2730 meters above sea level) where you can visit an archaeological site, craft villages, steeped in history and excellent places to practice Ecotourism and Agritourism.
Leaving San Salvador, on the main highway north, heading north of the Salvadoran territory, through the famous town of Aguilares, find one of the most important archaeological sites in the country: Cihuatan, which still does not reach full excavation.
SALVADORAN ARTISANS WORK CLAY, NATURAL FIBERS, WOOD, SEEDS AND FABRICS AUTHENTICALLY BEAUTIFUL. LA PALMA, ILOBASCO AND SAN SEBASTIAN ARE AMONG THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE SALVADORAN CRAFTS.

Located 54 Km. Of San Salvador, in the department of Cabañas, had the name of Xilobascoy or Silobascoy in Nahuatl language means "Place of Tender Corn Tortillas." Today it is famous for making crafts miniature clay.

Located between the volcano and Guazapa Lempa River is a beautiful city with houses and streets of colonial style, known as the cultural capital of El Salvador. Its name in Nahuatl means "Place of the Flower Bird". Among its attractions is Lake Suchitlán that can be traveled by boat, stopping at the islands of the birds and the Hermit. Do not forget your camera ... the landscapes are beautiful.

The Spanish introduced the traditional conch or pedal loom in this population and today traditional hammocks and other apparel fabric, are one of the main attractions and main source of income for its inhabitants.

CIHUATÁN

CIHUATÁN

Located 37 Km. North of San Salvador, its name in Nahuatl means "Place of Women", hinting at the silhouette of a woman resting outlining the Cerro de Guazapa. It is a ceremonial center of more than 300 hectares comprising two golf Ball, platforms and a main pyramid of 14 meters, called La Gloria.

Situated in the department of Cuscatlán, it was an important farm where it was grown and processed sugar cane. Today this activity still continues,
coupled with basic grains. The farm has two natural sites rescued by its Cooperative and the Ministry of Environment, places that can be visited in the company of rangers. At the end of the walk, visitors can enjoy a delicious lunch in the center of the estate.

THE PALM

THE PALM


It is 2 hours from San Salvador, in the department of Chalatenango. For over 30 years, its population has been producing decorative handicrafts, using pine wood, cloth blanket and seeds Copinol as main raw materials. Native artisans paint and full reasons colorful, art style "Naif" which taught the Salvadoran artist Fernando Llort.

In the 1970s, Fernando Llort settled in the town, developing a cottage industry that constitutes the main source of local employment. The palmeño style is mainly characterized by using as raw material the seed of copinol,  decorated with bright paint and abstract paintings, with motifs of life cotidiana.5 addition, some artisans have changed the art and crafts including other type.
There are about 100 craft shops in the village, half of which are mainly engaged in exporting. The growth of the artisan export in the municipality does not correspond to the national trend, remaining country. still well above.
