THE PALM

THE PALM


It is 2 hours from San Salvador, in the department of Chalatenango. For over 30 years, its population has been producing decorative handicrafts, using pine wood, cloth blanket and seeds Copinol as main raw materials. Native artisans paint and full reasons colorful, art style "Naif" which taught the Salvadoran artist Fernando Llort.

In the 1970s, Fernando Llort settled in the town, developing a cottage industry that constitutes the main source of local employment. The palmeño style is mainly characterized by using as raw material the seed of copinol,  decorated with bright paint and abstract paintings, with motifs of life cotidiana.5 addition, some artisans have changed the art and crafts including other type.
There are about 100 craft shops in the village, half of which are mainly engaged in exporting. The growth of the artisan export in the municipality does not correspond to the national trend, remaining country. still well above.
